Barely three months ago, Arsenal won the UEFA Women’s Champions League over Barcelona, 1-0, on a memorable afternoon in Lisbon. It seems like only a blink of an eye, but the curtain-raiser for the new WSL season is already upon us. The Gunners will relish the chance to begin their title tilt at the Emirates, where they will play all 11 home WSL fixtures this season for the first time in club history. With Renée Slegers beginning her first full season as Head Coach, Arsenal are riding on a wave of stability and belief. Her side roll into the new season with the kind of momentum that comes after becoming Champions of Europe (the only in the land, not even Chelsea!). The summer window was all about landmark moves– not least the record-breaking £1 million capture of Olivia Smith from Liverpool, and the permanent signing of Chloe Kelly, now indispensible after her loan spell and Euros heroics. However, the Gunners will be missing Leah Williamson at the back early doors, following knee surgery post-Euro final.

On the flip side, London City Lionesses make their WSL debut not as bashful underdogs but as an ambitious, blossoming project making a statement. Fully independent since splitting from Millwall in 2019, the club has attracted serious backing and big-name recruits—including England star Nikita Parris, Swedish stalwarts Kosovare Asllani, Saki Kumagai, Danielle van de Donk, plus Alanna Kennedy and Katie Zelem from Angel City FC. Manager Jocelyn Precheur insists they have “nothing to lose” against the European champions and expects plenty to learn no matter the result. There’s even been talk of going after Arsenal favourite Beth Mead– Precheur quipped that “everything is possible” at London City, underlining the club’s lofty intent this season. All in all, this debut trip to the Emirates represents a coming-of-age moment: on the biggest stage, with no fear, plenty of pride, and an appetite to disrupt.

We're thrilled to shift our focus to the women's side this weekend. Rise, shine, and join the best supporters in Boston as we open another season with our European champions, together.
