Arsenal are set to face Crystal Palace for the second time in three days, this time in a Premier League clash at Selhurst Park. In Wednesday's League Cup quarter-final at the Emirates, Palace took an early lead before Gabriel Jesus's second-half hat-trick secured a 3-2 victory, propelling the Gunners into the semi-finals. Currently, Arsenal sit third in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Liverpool. Recent league form has been mixed, with dropped points in the last few matches. The squad is contending with several injuries, particularly in defence, with Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Oleksandr Zinchenko among those sidelined. Additionally, the festive period has intensified fixture congestion, challenging squad rotation and player fitness.
Crystal Palace have experienced a resurgence in form after a poor start to the season, where they managed only one win in their first ten Premier League matches. They are unbeaten in their last five league games, recording two wins and three draws, which has lifted them to 15th place in the table. However, they face selection challenges, with key players like Daniel Muñoz suspended and others doubtful due to injuries. Eddie Nketiah, who came off the bench against Arsenal in the cup tie, is in contention to feature again against his former club. Apparently, Rob Holding is also on the Palace books but we won't hold our breath for an appearance. Regrdless of personnel, Arsenal will need to be vigilant against a revitalised Palace side aiming to continue their upward trajectory.
The weather outside may be frightful, but little is more delightful than sharing some holiday cheer with the best supporters in Boston!
