PL: Brighton and Hove Albion v Arsenal

Arsenal travel to Brighton Hove & Albion on Wednesday for a matchup of first and eleventh. Both teams have won their last two domestically. In the reverse fixture earlier this year, Arsenal won 2-1 in a match they largely dominated. David Raya made one of the saves of the season to secure the points. Mikel Arteta will want this match to provide little drama, but if the recent past is any indicator, it could be anything but.

Brighton have had a poor season. They sit firmly mid-table, and Fabian Hürzeler faced murmurs of his own exit in the summer. Former Gunner Danny Welbeck will lead the line for Brighton. Flying wingback Ferdi Kadioglu and winter Kaoro Mitoma will provide threat on the wings. Last season’s fixtures included the Declan Rice “kick the ball away’ red card and the “ball-to-head” Joao Pedro penalty. Brighton will draw on these incidents and Arsenal’s recent nervy play as a buoy for their belief.

Mikel Arteta saw his side get over the line against Chelsea. With two London Derby wins on the bounce, his side head south with a chance to get some revenge for last year’s draw. In two previous meetings this season, Arsenal have won both (league and Carabao Cup). Fans can expect light rotation, with the likes of Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Martinelli fresh and ready to start. With the status of Declan Rice and Ben White unknown, it remains to be seen what Arteta does at right back and central midfield. No one in the attack has been in remarkable form. It’s a chance for someone to catch fire and write their own legacy.
