The first two matches in this brutal of 10 matches in 35 days both fell for The Arsenal. Wednesday afternoon saw the Gunners clinch top spot in their Champions League group after last-weekend’s nervy 1-0 win at Brentford took them top of the Premier League. The Gunners pummeled Lens, dropping five on the Ligue 1 runners-up before half-time. This remarkable display was also the first time Arsenal scored that many in a first half since 1950. By full time, six different Arsenal players had scored. Perhaps most importantly, Kai Havertz tallied in his second straight game.
We now head back into the league on Saturday as Wolverhampton Wanderers head south to N7. Gary O’Neil’s club is fresh off a frustrating 3-2 loss to Fulham, which came with even more officiating and VAR controversy. Dangerous winger Pedro Neto should miss another game. Making matters worse – or better – both Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes are missing the game through suspensions for yellow card accumulations.
Mikel Arteta will surely be buoyed by the dominance of his first-choice front five playing together for the first time this season. He'll be hoping for more of the same, so start your Saturday with your fellow Gooners as we do too.
