A New Journey.
After a disappointing home draw to Liverpool, Arsenal begin another trophy quest on Sunday when they visit Portsmouth in the FA Cup. Mikel Arteta and his players will be hoping to put Thursday’s match behind them with a convincing performance.
Portsmouth sit 21st in the Championship, but Fratton Park will be looking forward to the glamour tie. Defender Regan Poole has already indicated his side will need to “make it ugly” to get a result. Recent form for Portsmouth ticked up: They went four unbeaten over the holidays before getting blitzed 5-0 by Bristol City on New Year’s day. Portsmouth will have nine first team players out injured for the match, but FA Cup magic means anything is possible.
Arsenal lost Pierro Hincapie in the match against Liverpool, adding to other defensive absentees. That being said, Mikel Arteta will likely rotate heavily for this match. A Carabao Cup semi-final awaits midweek, and with four away matches in ten days, this is an opportunity to get some stars off the pitch. Players like Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, and Mikel Merino will be eager to impress. Youngster Marli Salmon could make his full debut, while fellow Hale Enders Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri will also hope to feature prominently.
Arsenal need to start this away run with a win, and the squad needs to step up. Will Arsenal get their FA Cup campaign off to a good start? Or will they suffer a shock defeat? We’ll be watching early on Sunday morning at Dillon’s, and we hope you can join us!
