Crystal Palace visit Arsenal for a quarterfinal match-up in the Carabao Cup, the winner set for a semi-final against Chelsea. With both teams on short rest, and with Palace playing their third game in six days, it’s widely expected that each team will heavily rotate.
Oliver Glasner’s side come into this one having lost at Leeds United 4-1 at the weekend. They sit in 8th place, with two wins in the last five. Their attack will be led by the handful that is Jean-Phillippe Mateta through the middle and Yeremy Pino playing on the left. This will be a chance for Eddie Nketiah to make a point against his old side. Dangerman Ismaila Sarr will miss the match through AFCON.
Mikel Arteta will view this match as one to win, and while many expect a fully changed side, it remains to be seen who keeps their place from the weekend. In defense, Arsenal simply don’t have the bodies to rotate center halves. The last thing Arsenal need is another defensive injury. Could this be an opportunity for young Marli Salmon to make his first start at right back? Arsenal should be able to rotate more freely in midfield and attack, with Noni Madueke and Ebe Eze hoping for starts. Gabriel Jesus will also be looking for added minutes.
Will Arsenal make it four in a row and book their place in the semis? Or will the FA Cup holders maintain their push for another domestic cup? Join us on Tuesday at Dillon’s and help us continue our holiday celebrations!
