Mid-Week Magic Awaits
Arsenal take a break from leading the Premier League table to host thirteenth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup round of sixteen. Mikel Arteta’s side carry an impressive five consecutive clean sheets into the match. Brighton visit on the back of a 4-2 loss to United at the weekend. But it’s the Carabao Cup, so does form matter?
Brighton have been underwhelming so far this season. Fabian Hurzeler will be looking to the Emirates to spark a run of consistency for his Seagulls. And he will do so with confidence, having held Arsenal to two draws in the last campaign. Brighton will be missing the likes of Kaoru Mitoma, Adam Webster, Joel Veltman, and Solly March from their squad. Danny Welbeck, still the main threat in their forward line, will be one to watch against his former club.
Arsenal enter the match in a good run of form, with 1-0’s aplenty in the league and a European thrashing as well. While fans will hope Arteta rotates, we know from experience that any changes won’t be crazy. Late fitness tests will determine much of the line-up with Bukayo Saka, Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice, and William Saliba failing to finish the match against Crystal Palace. Add them to Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke, and the captain, and all of a sudden, we look pretty thin. A win will put Arsenal into the last eight of the competition, and injuries aside, Arsenal should have enough to get through at home.
Can Arsenal right another wrong of last season and send Brighton packing? Or will the Seagulls eat well at the Emirates? Knock off work early and join us at Dillon’s this Wednesday!
